When applying Marblite to the swimming pool, we require good weather that’s not too windy and with no chance of rain. The wet Marblite plaster runs a risk of being smeared or damaged while still wet. Children and animals must also be kept away from the pool until it is filled the following day. Marblite is a form of plaster that gets trowelled onto the gunite.

Marblite plaster makes the pool smooth and provides waterproofing. Marblite can’t be exposed to the sun for long periods of time.
Once applied it must dry for ± 24 hours after which the pool will be filled with water. Marblite cures underwater for the 1st 3 months. It requires looking after and must get swept daily for the 1st month and 3 times a week thereafter. If dust settles on a new Marblite pool, brown marks will form. Rough Marblite results from incorrect chemical application, thus it is important that the water’s pH is checked on a regular basis.

We lay tiling around a swimming pool using a standard method on a compacted, reinforced concrete slab, not just in river sand – like most of our competitors. This ensures that the surroundings don’t ‘move’ or ‘sag’ after time. We would like to remind our clients not to walk on newly laid tiling for 4-5 days or grouting will come out.

An experienced tiler will lay waterline pool mosaics straight and level with plaster key and tile adhesive. Our trade mark style is to mosaic the top step completely for a neat, clean finish.

Our Gunite solution, offers more consistent results with a quick turnaround time allowing clients to enjoy the end result sooner! Get in touch with us today for a quote.

We want you to have the best quality swimming pool that lasts you a lifetime. That’s why we reinforce the entire pool, from the start, with standard weld mesh. Extra reinforcement is implemented at stress points for extra durability.

Further reinforcements are created at the surrounding perimeter using bond beams featuring 10mm high tensile rods. Steel specifications do vary depending on soil conditions. In Dolomite soil,  steel with a 4 times heavier specification is essential i.e. Y10mm rods at 200 centres throughout the pool.

The pool’s shell is then created by using Gunite, a pneumatically applied concrete. Gunite mix consists of 4 parts sand to 1 part cement with a thickness that can vary between 130 to 150mm. The pool shell will be guaranteed for a period of 20 years against structural failure due to faulty workmanship or defective materials. Proper water management / drainage around immediate pool area is essential. The water must not be allowed to undermine the pool shell in which case the shell will not be guaranteed at all.

Proper expansion joints in the pool’s surroundings are necessary. Failure to comply will result in horizontal cracks in mosaics and gunite shell.

The guarantee does not cover the pool being emptied without written permission from the contractor

Excavating a pool can be a chaotic and tedious process, but at SA Gunite we strive to make every step of the pool building process easy for our clients. We even go the extra mile to dig your pool by hand if the site can’t accommodate a TLB. Soil will be placed on the pavement for removal by a soil removal company.
